Ramesh Maraj

was born in Georgetown, Guyana. He was raised in Toronto, Canada, where he received a degree in music. He subsequently joined the Canadian Armed Forces where he continued to receive extensive musical training at the Canadian Forces School of Music while performing for visiting dignitaries as part of the band. Ramesh owes his deep passion for Indian music to his father the late Pandit Isri Maraj. Various artists have featured his scintillating saxophone solos on their albums. He currently resides in New York City and tours extensively nationally as well as abroad. He has been performing for over twenty years and is a seasoned musician who has become a household name in many parts of North and South America, including the Caribbean. With many years of musical training and experience, Ramesh has an extensive repertoire that includes many different styles and interpretations.

Indian music is Ramesh's heartfelt passion and his unique and dramatic renderings on the saxophone truly showcase the complex and lilting melodies of the genre. He asserts that, "There is a beauty in traditional Indian music which when combined with the warm romantic tone of a western instrument such as the saxophone render it incredibly melodious and unforgettable."

Ramesh plays the Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone Saxophones as well as the Flute and Clarinet. He has a variety of songs in his repertoire, from old favorites to modern hits. His interpretations encompass rich melodies from all regions of the Indian subcontinent. He has graced the stage along with artists from many continents and his unique contribution is his ability to engage the audience in the show so that they are not merely spectators but active participants in the magic he creates.
